Robinson's fumble allowed Veronin to tap home Liverpool's opener

Robinson, 27, spilled a Steven Gerrard free-kick to gift Andriy Voronin an easy tap-in for Liverpool's opener.

It came on the back of errors against Aston Villa and for England and has increased concerns over his form for this month's Euro 2008 qualifiers.

After the 2-2 draw Jol said: "I have no worries about his form. Every game is different but he still has confidence."

The Dutchman even refused to accept Robinson was at fault for the goal that put Liverpool ahead at Anfield.

He added: "I am not concerned about Paul Robinson's form and suggestions he made another mistake.

"If you see the replay you see that it got a deflection off Jermaine Jenas, hitting his knee.

"It was not a mistake. It hit him and Voronin was first to the rebound. Nobody went with the runner, it was just a bad goal from the defence's point of view.

"I still have confidence in Paul and that is why I played him in midweek against Famagusta and at Anfield."

Robinson has made a difficult start to the season and was also at fault for Germany's equaliser in England's 2-1 friendly defeat in August.

But the former Leeds stopper has also been supported by England head coach Steve McClaren, who has insisted he is still his first choice going into the Euro 2008 qualifiers against Estonia and Russia, which take place on Saturday and on 17 October respectively.

Former Tottenham captain and England defender Gary Mabbutt told BBC 5live: "When a player has had a difficult time you look to how they react and Paul has shown he is big enough to cope.

"Both Martin Jol and Steve McClaren have supported him and I'm certain he will keep his place for the next two England matches."
