Defoe positive on Spurs future
Jermain Defoe
Defoe's team-mates celebrate the striker's return to form
Jermain Defoe was in a positive mood regarding his future at Tottenham after scoring twice against Famagusta in the Uefa Cup on Thursday.

The striker came off the bench to grab two goals after struggling to get into the starting 11 in recent months.

Tottenham went on to win 6-1 against the Cypriot side.

"There was a lot of things said during the summer but when the fans are like that with me I don't want to go anywhere," Defoe told BBC Radio 5live.

Tottenham coach Martin Jol told 5live: "I want to keep him here, he's one of the best finishers in the Premiership."

Defoe added: "I'm just glad to be involved, I couldn't wait to run out onto the pitch. When I play football I'm happy and I'm just delighted with the goals.

"I've got to say thanks to the fans. If it wasn't for them I don't think I'd have been able to score the two goals. They lifted me and gave me energy, it was quite emotional because I've not been involved much and the fans were just unbelievable.

"I've said that I haven't got anything to prove but maybe to myself because it's been difficult, but I've been positive and kept my head up and worked hard in training. I think I'm stronger now. Sometimes when you work hard you get lucky."

And on being left out of the squad for the Arsenal match last Saturday, Defoe said: "It was difficult.

"It's hard to find words, but I still came to the game and I was in the changing room before the game to say good luck to all the boys.

"It was frustrating watching it because I thought we played well and lost the game."
