Keane set up one and scored two against Bolton before being sent off |
Tottenham skipper Robbie Keane has had his claim for wrongful dismissal rejected by the Football Association. Keane was sent off for denying a scoring opportunity 36 minutes into the weekend win against Bolton when referee Graham Poll deemed he handled the ball.
Wanderers scored from the resulting spot-kick but failed to rally against 10 men, finally losing the match 4-1.
The Irish striker must now serve a one-match ban, meaning he will miss Sunday's tie at London rivals West Ham.
Keane scored a brace before being sent off for the first time in his career and was furious with the decision, which came after he blocked a goalbound Ivan Campo header on the line.
The ball struck his chest before appearing to hit his arm as it dropped and Poll issued a straight red card for denying a goalscoring opportunity.
"Robbie said that he had chested the ball and it was definitely not a penalty," said Spurs boss Martin Jol after the match.
"It's always easy in hindsight. If you win games it's not a problem. He said he chested it."
