Former Holland star Arnold Muhren is backing fellow countryman Edgar Davids to be a major success at Tottenham. The 32-year-old midfielder, who has vast experience at the top level throughout Europe, moved to White Hart Lane from Inter Milan on a free deal.
And ex-Ipswich and Manchester United midfield man Muhren told BBC Sport: "I think this is a very good signing. He will feel he has something to prove.
"He is still a very good player and will enjoy the Premiership."
Muhren now works at the Ajax academy, where Davids started his career before moving on to AC Milan, Juventus and Barcelona.
Davids spent much of last season on the sidelines at Inter Milan.
Muhren said: "I don't know what happened there. And obviously this affected his chances of playing for Holland because it was clear you had to play for your club side to play for the national team.
"Edgar is left-sided, and everyone is looking for left-sided midfield players and left-backs. He is very good in one-on-one situations in midfield and is very aggressive.
"He picks up a lot of yellow cards and he must show a good example, but I think his style will suit the Premiership.
"He has proved he is a very good player and has played for the biggest teams in Europe.
"It was a big surprise he didn't play a lot at Inter, because before that he played a major part in turning things around at Barcelona. He made a real difference there and everyone was surprised when he didn't stay."
Muhren believes the presence of Spurs' Dutch coach Martin Jol was a crucial factor in persuading Davids to move to White Hart Lane, even though they could not offer him European football.
He said: "It is always an advantage to have a fellow countryman as coach. Jol knows him very well and Edgar will know he will be working with a very good coach.

"Martin will also know Edgar's qualities and character and I think he can do the trick for Spurs. He is a great talent.
"It may be a surprise that he has gone to a club not playing European football, but I think he just wants to play after being out for so much of last season and after all this is Spurs, a very big club known throughout the world.
"They may not have been successful in the last few seasons, but maybe he fancies the challenge of bringing them that success."
Davids has a reputation as a fiery and controversial character, but Muhren says: "This is part of the thing that has made him an outstanding player. He is not going to change his character or his game now."
Jol wants Davids to lead his young players by example, and Muhren said: "I think he can do this. He may be a little bit quieter now, but he is still going to get involved and try to make things happen.
"In England that is a good thing. He wants to win the ball and sometimes he can get into trouble, but he could be an example. "He will enjoy the challenge. It is a different country. All the top stars play in the Premiership and Spurs still have a high profile.
"I think it is a good signing by Spurs and a good move for Edgar."
