Richards ready to return
Spurs' defender Dean Richards
Richards insists he has shaken off his fitness problems
Tottenham defender Dean Richards says he is ready to help the team's battle against relegation after nearly six weeks on the sidelines.

The former Southampton star has been out with an Achilles injury and debilitating virus since 14 March - the last time Spurs picked up three points.

But after coming through an hour of a reserve team game, Richards is eyeing a comeback in the derby with Arsenal.

"We are running out of time. If I'm needed, I am ready to play," he said.

Spurs, in 14th place and flirting dangerously close to the drop with just four games to go, face champions elect the Gunners at White Hart Lane on Sunday.

Richards added: "I got a good 60 minutes under my belt.

The virus gave me all sorts of problems. I was sick after training and it effected my balance. It was nasty but I feel better now

"My mobility was not too bad and I'm pretty positive. The last time I came back after a calf injury it was too soon and this time I wanted to take it steady and play a couple of reserve games.

"But we are running out of season.

Meanwhile, striker Helder Postiga looks to have no chance of being involved against Arsene Wenger's outfit after limping out of Tuesday's 2-1 second-string win at Charlton with a thigh injury.

But Spurs caretaker manager David Pleat is hoping to have England centre-half Ledley King available to continue in midfield, despite reports of a hip injury.

  • Tottenham have arranged pre-season friendly matches with Old Firm rivals Celtic and Rangers.

Pleat's men will travel to Ibrox on Wednesday, 28 July before taking on the Bhoys at Parkhead on Monday, 9 August.
