Kanoute is prepared to fight for a place in the team |
Tottenham striker Frederic Kanoute has admitted that he faces a battle to regain his first-team place after the arrival of Jermain Defoe at the club. Ex-West Ham star Defoe has scored four goals in three Premiership appearances.
Kanoute, meanwhile, has been used as a substitute since returning from African Cup of Nations duty with Mali, which followed a club-versus-country row.
"I have to fight to play my part on the pitch again because the team has been so good going forward," said Kanoute.
"But that does not bother me and I am just glad we have such good strikers and Jermain Defoe has added a lot more."
Kanoute told the Spurs website that he heard about the signing of Defoe while he was in Tunisia with Mali.
And he added: "I was delighted because it was easy to remember his skill at West Ham."
Defoe could be a late contender for Sven-Goran Eriksson's England squad for Euro 2004.
He scored 15 goals for West Ham before moving to White Hart Lane and his current strike partner Robbie Keane has found the net 16 times - as has Kanoute.
