Torquay have confirmed Exeter assistant boss Paul Buckle will lead the side's bid to escape the Conference. The 36-year-old, who played for the Gulls between 1994 and 1995, replaces sacked former boss Leroy Rosenior.
Rosenior was recruited following last season's relegation, but was then sacked when a new regime took control.
And chief executive Colin Lee believes Buckle can lead the Gulls to success. "(He is) someone who shares our core beliefs," Lee told their official site.
Torquay finished 13 points from safety last season, winning just seven league matches in a disastrous campaign.
But Buckle believes he can lead the team to happier times. "I am delighted and very proud to be given the opportunity to manage Torquay," he said.
"I am looking forward to working with everybody at the club as we begin a new era."
