Torquay United Chairman Mike Bateson says the quicker he can sell the club the better. The Plainmoor side were relegated from the Football League on Saturday after a 1-1 draw with Peterborough.
Bateson told the club's website: "I left the club in the top half of the table and financially sound, a few months on it's in flaming ruins.
"I've been speaking to several buyers and want to do the deal as soon as possible", he said.
Bateson, who sold the club in October, but came back to try and prevent relegation, added: "I made a huge mistake selling the club and of course in hindsight I wish I hadn't made the sale. It was a costly mistake in terms of our League status and also for me personally.
"Either way, had we survived I'd still want to sell. I don't want to be here next season. I came back purely for the short term as I couldn't sit back and let the club go bust.
"It's time for a new era and the quicker it's sold the better for everyone. Supporters will be asked to continue playing their part next season. I hope they do just that."
