Swindon Town defender Paul Caddis says he has no idea why he has been left out of the first team in recent weeks.

The 21-year-old last started a match in the 3-0 home defeat by Charlton three weeks ago when he was hauled off after an hour.

"I don't know but maybe because when I didn't play the boys did well and the manager's got to stick with a winning team," he told BBC Points West.

"I just need to get back to basics and work my way back into the team."

Caddis continued: "If the boys keep winning then I can't really complain because obviously the boys are doing their job."

The Scotland Under-21 international was signed in the summer from Celtic where he had been since 2007.

And Swindon manager Danny Wilson had some words of encouragement for Caddis.

"It's been a little bit unfortunate from Paul's point of view," he said.

"Daft as it may sound there's a big step from where he's come from to football in League One.

"From playing reserve team football and the odd first team game it's a tougher ask to play regularly in the first division at such a young age.

"But we feel we've got a very good player on our hands here and when he finds his feet I don't think they'll be any stopping him."

Despite not featuring for his club Caddis got his first call-up to the full Scotland squad for their friendly against the Faroe Islands on Tuesday.

He was an unused substitute in the 3-0 win but was just glad to be involved.

"I've not been playing here for a couple of weeks and it was the last thing on my mind to be honest," said Caddis.

"It's good rubbing shoulders with the likes of [Manchester United's] Darren Fletcher and it can only make you a better player the more I'm in squads like that.

"I'm just privileged Craig Levein kept me in mind as it's quite easy to be forgotten when you move down here from Scotland.

"I've worked with him at Dundee United and he knows a lot about me so I hope that will work in my favour."
