Smith may have to battle for a starting place in the team
Swindon Town manager Maurice Malpas is expecting full-back Jack Smith to sign a one-year contract extension.
Malpas has revealed he is looking to sign several defenders, which could mean 24-year-old Smith is not first choice next season.
But the Town boss told BBC Radio Swindon that Smith was set to put pen to paper when he returns from holiday.
"He spoke to me the night before he left to say that the offer was probably going to be OK," said Malpas.
"He's away in the United States at the moment but when he's back he'll come in and get it signed."
Meanwhile Swindon defender Jerel Ifil could be about to play international football for St Lucia.
The Caribbean island contacted the Robins after finding out that Ifil's grandmother and father lived there.
St Lucia play in the North American CONCACAF federation and start their campaign for qualification for the 2010 World Cup against Guatemala next month.
