Malpas eager to start at Swindon
Incoming Swindon boss Maurice Malpas
Malpas will be assisted by former caretaker boss Dave Byrne
Incoming Swindon boss Maurice Malpas is looking forward to beginning his new role once his appointment is complete.

Chairman-elect Andrew Fitton hopes his takeover will be confirmed on Friday, which is when Malpas should begin.

The Scot told BBC Radio Swindon: "The sooner I get in, the better. Dave Byrne will look after the first couple of games because he knows the players.

"So I'll rely on him. Then we'll start getting involved more and see where we go," the ex-Motherwell boss added.

And the former Scotland Under-21 caretaker manager knows he faces a baptism of fire in English football.

"There are a few hard games coming up now, up at Walsall on Saturday, and Nottingham Forest the following week, with the cup tie against Barnet in between, which is important to us."
