Atkinson, who has been out of the game since a row over racist remarks, is to present a fly-on-the wall documentary about Swindon but will not be coaching.

"We've got a staff of people here which I am very happy with," said Onuora.

"Results show we're not doing too bad. Any other help we get will be great but Ron is here to front a TV show."

The programme, which will be broadcast before the World Cup, will give Atkinson full access to what is going on at the club, which he described as "an extremely exciting challenge and another new adventure in my life."

Swindon vice-chairman Mark Devlin said he hoped the club might benefit from some of Atkinson's expertise and professional contacts during his time at the club, but Onuora was keen to stress that this was not the main reason for having Atkinson there.

"The reason we decided to go ahead with the documentary is it gives the club a bit of a higher profile," said Onuora.

"I was surprised people have run with it in the way they have. He hasn't come in in a football capacity and he doesn't have a title of any kind."

Atkinson has been out of the game since April 2004, after he made a derogatory off-air remark about Chelsea defender Marcel Desailly.

"I don't want to go there, I've apologised. End of story," said Atkinson.

"I will put my track record up against anybody. Not just with footballers, but my record with people. It's gone, it's over, time to draw a line under it.

"Being called a racist annoyed me. It hurt me, but I'm not annoyed now. I understand what followed, I shouldn't have said it. I know that."
