Manager Paulo Sousa has two years to run on his Swansea contract

Leicester City chairman Milan Mandaric has denied that any approach has been made for Swansea City boss Paulo Sousa.

But Mandaric, the former Portsmouth owner, stopped short of ruling out a move for Sousa in the future.

Leicester are seeking a replacement for Nigel Pearson as manager, after he opted to take over Hull City.

"Paulo didn't apply for the job and we're not in the process of any conversation to talk to Swansea," Mandaric told BBC Sport Wales.

"That would normally be the first step for us but we didn't take that approach yet, I'm not quite sure if that's going to take place at this time.

"So it's purely speculation on the media side at this point... we have got 15 to 20 other managers that are applying for the job as well.

"Of course I admire his [Sousa's] style of football and he's a younger, successful manager and everyone recognises that."

Bookmakers have installed the Portuguese as one of the favourites for the Leicester job.

But Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins is unhappy about the speculation linking his manager with the job at the Walkers Stadium, especially as Sousa has two years left to run on his contract at the Liberty Stadium.

"Following the recent speculation regarding the future of manager Paulo Sousa, I feel it is necessary to reiterate that Swansea City Football Club has not received an approach, in any shape or form, from Leicester City or any other club for his potential services at this time," he said in a statement.

"I agree that the current uncertainty and continued speculation is not good for Swansea City, especially at a time when the players are returning for pre-season training.

"It is not only unsettling for the current squad, but also for our new players and the new signings we will be completing within the next few weeks.

"I fully understand the need to have a stable working environment for the players to work in and I can assure supporters that I am doing everything in my powers to end all the speculation as soon as possible.

"As a club we do not normally comment on speculation on our official website, but I believe that in this instance the silence is damaging for the football club.

"Nobody wants another uncertain period following on from the summer we had last season.

"But, like always, we will continue working hard and remain fully committed to ensure that come 7 August our squad and management team will be stronger, fully focussed and ready to compete in the Championship again."

Swansea City's players returned to pre-season training on Friday where they were put through fitness tests by the club's medical team.
