Angel Rangel joined from Spanish side Terrassa in 2007
Spanish defender Angel Rangel has put pen to paper on a one-year contract extension at Swansea City.
The 27-year-old triggered a clause in his current deal after making his 23rd appearance of the season in last Saturday's 1-1 draw with Newcastle.
"I am very happy to sign the extension," he told the club's website.
"I've always said that Swansea gave me my opportunity in British football and I'm so grateful for it. Now I aim to reach the Premier League with them."
Rangel's new deal runs until the summer of 2011, but only last month he was involved in a public spat with the club following interest from Premier League side Fulham.
The right-back criticised chairman Huw Jenkins claiming he "stopped me improving my career".
But Rangel, who joined from Spanish side Terrassa in 2007 for a small undisclosed fee, insisted it was about the chance to play top-flight football and not about wanting to leave Swansea.
Rangel has also been linked with Premier League sides West Ham and Wigan along with Scottish Premier League side Celtic, but says he would still "try my best for Swansea".
"This is not about wanting to leave Swansea I love the club and I have always loved it," he also said.
