matt Collins' progress was damaged by injury last season

Swansea City defender Matty Collins has signed a two-year extension with the club, keeping him there until 2011.

Merthyr Tydfil-born Collins, 23, joined from Fulham in the summer of 2007 and is considered a player with big potential for the future.

He joined Fulham from Swindon as a 15-year-old for £250,000 and opted for the Swans six years later.

"I'm delighted. I was told midway through last season that I would be offered a new deal," said Collins.

"But with all the uncertainty surrounding the manager it was always in the back of my mind that it may not happen."

He added: "Last season was better than my first at the club and I intend to keep that progression going. At my age and at this state of my career I need to be playing on a more regular basis.

"I feel my game has progressed significantly over the last two years at the club, especially as I've switched from midfield to right-back. I feel comfortable there now and I believe I am ready to kick on.

"I love the club and I am proud, especially as a Welshman, to be offered the new deal. It's a great club."

In his first Swans season Collins made only one appearance and made four last season as injury took its toll.
