Swansea manager Roberto Martinez has tipped Owain Tudur Jones to be a future Wales captain.

The 23-year-old midfielder has spent most of the last two years on the sidelines with a recurring knee injury.

But Jones has finally overcome that and worked his way back into the Spaniard's Swansea side.

"Owain is going to be the next captain of the Wales senior team," said Martinez. "How long it's going to take will depend on the challenges."

Jones could start for John Toshack's Wales side when they host Lichtenstein in Saturday's World Cup qualifier in Cardiff.

"Owain should be in with a chance," said Martinez.

"He has had two years away from the game injured, but now he is back and I can guarantee the knee is 110 per cent and stronger than it was, so physically he's there.

"It's now just a matter of giving him the right challenge in front of him and slowly work him into a 90-minute scenario."

Martinez says Jones can slot into the Wales midfield alongside the likes of Jason Koumas and even hinted that he could eventually replace the Wigan star.

"He gives you a perfect blend in that midfield and can give you great partnerships," said the Spaniard.

"He has got many dimensions in his play but I think what we need to remember is Owain is still a very young man."

"It's important that he gets back to his fitness best and slowly reach his full potential.

"When he does that, he'll be one of the important players in the Welsh set-up."
