Scotland's shock axe by Trinidad

Swansea City striker Jason Scotland has been dropped from the Trinidad & Tobago squad for their friendly with England.

Head coach Francisco Maturana has shocked the Soca Warriors by dropping Swansea's 29-goal frontman who inspired the Welsh club to the League One title.

Sunderland targetman Kenwyne Jones and Southampton's Stern John have been included for Trinidad and Tobago's friendly with England on 1 June.

Scotland's omission casts doubt on the 29-year-old's international future.

Dwight Yorke, who retired from internationals last year but had been invited to play in the match by the country's federation, was also left out of the team.

Coach Francisco Maturana, who has also decided not to recall former Hibernian and Rangers midfielder Russell Latapy, said: "We see this as a very important preparation match and want to use the players who will be part of the squad that will help us get to the next World Cup.

"This is not an exhibition match."

England, though, will come up against some familiar faces when Fabio Capello's men play Trinidad and Tobago in Port of Spain on Sunday.

Sunderland winger Carlos Edwards and Swansea's giant defender Dennis Lawrence played against England in their 2-0 defeat to England in the 2006 World Cup group fixture.

Trinidad and Tobago goalkeeper Clayton Ince also plays in England at League One side Walsall.
