Iriekpen is keen to win a new contract for next season |
Swansea central defender Izzy Iriekpen has withdrawn his transfer request. The 24-year-old, who is out of contract at the end of the season, put in the request last month after being sidelined from the first team.
But after playing in the FA Cup against Ipswich and the last two league games, the ex-West Ham man has thought again.
Iriekpen has had disciplinary problems, but was keen to stress that his change of heart had nothing to do with the exit of ex-manager Kenny Jackett.
 | The only reason I had gone on the list in the first place was because I wanted to be playing |
"I asked my agent to get in touch with the club last week to get me taken off the transfer list," Iriekpen told the South Wales Evening Post..
"That was after Kenny had left, but it wasn't a result of that at all.
"The only reason I had gone on the list in the first place was because I wanted to be playing and I wasn't, but Kenny put me back in the side before he left."
Iriekpen joined the Swans from West Ham on a free transfer in August 2003.
"There's been no new contract offer to me so far and I think the club have said they're not going to do anything until the end of the season," he said.
"Some of the boys might get better offers elsewhere in the meantime, so that's the risk the club are taking.
"I've spoken to a few clubs already, so we'll just have to see what happens in the summer."
