Pressure got to Jackett - Addison
Colin Addison knows how hard it can be to manage Swansea City

Kenny Jackett's departure as Swansea manager is down to the huge expectation at the club according to Colin Addison.

"It's all about the results game and sadly those have not gone Kenny's way in recent weeks," Addison, a former Swans boss himself, told BBC Wales.

"I think he just felt the pressure, the tension, there's so much expectation.

"But he can hold his head high and look at his track record over the past three years with Swansea, he's been very successful and he's got a big future."

Jackett parted company with the south Wales club on Thursday after nearly three years in charge.

The split came as a surprise because although a poor recent run of results have seen Swansea slip out of the League One play-off zone, they remain in contention.

Former Wales boss Terry Yorath, who has both played for and managed Swansea, said it was a surprise that Jackett had gone.

I don't think the Swansea Board tried hard enough... they should have done everything in their power to make Kenny Jackett stay

"My reaction is one of shock really, Kenny is an up-and-coming manager and has done very well at Swansea," Yorath told BBC Radio Wales' Richard Evans programme.

"Swansea have got a new stadium, they've given him money to spend on players and I thought Kenny was doing a great job."

Jackett has come in for increasing criticism from fans and some media outlets in recent weeks as Swansea have slipped slowly down the league.

But only a month ago Jackett was being lauded after Swansea knocked Sheffield United out of the FA Cup on the Premiership side's own turf.

Yorath, who managed Swansea in two spells, believes that the club's Board members have made an error in letting Jackett walk away.

"It's always difficult when you're going through a bit of a spell where you're not winning games and expectations are high," Yorath said.

"But I would think that if the Board wanted him to stay, then he would have stayed.

"I don't think they tried hard enough; he's an up-and-coming manager and I feel they should have done everything in their power to make Kenny stay."

Addison, who held the Swansea reins from October 2001 to March 2002, said the club could suffer having lost its manager at a critical moment in the season.

"We all take criticism as managers, but sometimes enough is enough and I think that's what has happened to Kenny Jackett," Addison added.
