Knight snubs Posh & Cobblers bids
Leon Knight
Leon Knight has scored 20 goals in 37 games for the Swans
Swansea's transfer-listed striker Leon Knight has rejected joining either Peterborough or Northampton.

BBC Wales understands that both Posh and Northampton were willing to pay Swansea's 125,000 asking price.

But 24-year-old Knight is reluctant to drop down a league with Posh and says he has not talked to the Cobblers.

"No disrespect to League Two but I feel that I'm better than that and I'm going to leave that alone, why should I go a division lower?" Knight told BBC Wales.

"My agent has spoken to (Peterborough director of football) Barry Fry and said no thank you.

"Barry Fry was quality about it and just said 'good luck' and that was that, and I've had no contact with Northampton."

With the transfer window not open until January, Knight - , Swansea's top scorer this season - knows he has time to reach a decision on his future.

"I'm not rushing nowhere," Knight added. "Obviously Swansea will want to get back their money on me, but at the end of the day it's my career.

"They put me on the transfer list and now they're just going to have to wait until the right thing comes up.

"But I'm not saying that I want this club or that club, I'm just waiting to see what happens and take it from there."

Swansea boss Kenny Jackett insists that Knight has been put up for sale because he has not worked hard enough, with both men denying reports of dressing-room unrest.

The player joined from Brighton for 125,000 in January and has scored 20 in 37 games, seven this season.

"I'm content within myself that I've not done anything wrong for me to be in this position," Knight said.

"I'm disappointed in the manager but I'm not disappointed in myself, because I came here and did what I had to do and that was score goals."

Jackett might also be willing to loan Knight out until a permanent move can be concluded.

"We've had a lot of enquiries," said Jackett.

"One or two have mentioned money, but as far as I know there's nothing concrete at the moment... but a clean break is the best for Leon now."

The Swans will be looking to recoup at least the 125,000 they paid Brighton for him in January.

But the Seagulls will also be due more cash should Knight move clubs for more than the sum they sold him for because of a sell-on clause.

Jackett says he is in no rush to replace the front man.

"I see Chris Jones as my fourth striker alongside Bayo Akinfenwa, Rory Fallon and Lee Trundle," he said.

"If Leon does go and at any stage we needed another one because of form or fitness, we would bring someone in then."

  • Swansea have no fresh injury worries ahead of Saturday's League One match at Northampton.

Midfielder Darren Way (shin) and right-back Kevin Amankwaah (knee) may be added to the squad after their recent injury problems.
