Swansea to launch charm offensive
Swansea City manager Kenny Jackett
Swansea Kenny Jackett has already identified new players
Swansea City manager Kenny Jackett is set to embark on a charm offensive to tempt new players to the club who can lead them to promotion next season.

But chairman Huw Jenkins admits the task has been made all the more difficult by their play-off failure.

He said: "We talked about transfer targets before Saturday's game and the debate now is whether we can persuade them to come down to League One.

"It's our job to sell the club to them and ensure the team gets stronger."

Swansea spent almost 600,000 in the January transfer window on strikers Rory Fallon and Leon Knight, plus midfielder Darren Way.

Tom Williams was signed for an undisclosed fee and Steven Watt joined on a free transfer, but the new faces failed to ensure Swansea stayed in the automatic promotion places.

A blistering start saw Swansea lead League One until Christmas, but then the rot set in.

They managed just three wins in their final 14 games and squeezed into the final play-off position by two points.

Jenkins admitted their failure to maintain their early-season form was a worry, but rejected suggestions that a director of football was needed to assist the inexperienced Jackett.

"It's certainly not our agenda," Jenkins told BBC Wales Sport.

"We're very disappointed how the season has ended taking into account that we started so well, and it's happened a few times to us.

"Even when we were promoted last year, and even back to when Brian Flynn was manager, we tended to start the season well and slow down after Christmas.

"Myself and Kenny have got to make sure that doesn't happen again. When we were playing two games a week before and after Christmas there's no doubt our levels of performance weren't the same."

We've got the Liberty Stadium in place and the training facility is the next step to make sure we can compete on all levels

Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins

As well as trying to buy success by spending on new players, Swansea are also investing in their future by developing a youth academy.

And part of that development, said Jenkins, are plans for a new purpose-built training facility.

"That's a priority," he added. "We haven't had one here since I've been at the club.

"We've got the Liberty Stadium in place and the training facility is the next step to make sure we can compete on all levels."

Jenkins also confirmed that players will leave the club this summer to make way for the new arrivals.

Out-of-contract club captain Roberto Martinez looks destined to be released, together with defender Kevin Austin and midfielder Adrian Forbes.
