Letheren, 17, is the son of former Leeds and Swansea goalkeeper Glan and is a rising star in the Welsh game.

The youngster is already part of the Wales Under-21 squad and played in the recent 3-3 friendly draw in Cyprus.

Newport have also signed Carmarthen defender Gareth Warton on contract, plus Wales U19 midfielder Dale Williams on a one-month loan from Yeovil.

Warton and Williams will help fill the gaps left by the jailing of Newport skipper Darren Jones and defender Andrew Thomas for assault.
