Swansea captain Roberto Martinez has vowed to fight to regain his place at the Vetch after being left out of the squad for the last two games. The 31-year-old, who has 10 months left on his well-paid contract, is not thought to fit with manager Kenny Jackett's preference for a physical midfield.
"To give up and go elsewhere would be a coward's decision," the Spaniard told the South Wales Evening Post.
"'I have become too attached to this club and I love it too much to go."
Martinez, a stylish player and popular figure with the fans, was captain at the Vetch when Jackett took over as manager from Brian Flynn last April.
The new Swansea boss has been sending out mixed messages over Martinez's future.
"Roberto is a very good professional with a good attitude and I'm pleased he's going to knuckle down and fight for his place, he has a future at Swansea," Jackett said.
"Would I let him go if a club came in? I'd have to cross that bridge when I came to it."
