Swansea's destiny is in their own hands |
Swansea boss Brian Flynn was in philosophical mood despite seeing his side's survival hopes take a blow at Shrewsbury on Tuesday night.
Shrewsbury's 3-2 home defeat to fellow Division Three strugglers Carlisle condemned them to relegation from the Football League for the first time in 53 years.
But the result safeguarded Carlisle's Third Division status, and so leaves Swansea and Exeter to battle it out at the foot of the table.
Swansea have a one point advantage, and so their Division Three survival will be ensured if they avoid a worse result than Exeter on Saturday.
Flynn said: "We wanted Shrewsbury to win to keep more teams down the bottom come the weekend.
"But I said with 20 games to go, if our league survival was in our own hands with one game to go then we would take it."
Flynn decided to watch the Gay Meadow encounter rather than to run the rule over Saturday's opponents Hull. They lost 2-1 at Rochdale.
The Vetch encounter - the most important game in Swansea's history - will be a near sell-out.
Nervous Swansea fans have already snapped up their allocation of 9,370 tickets, and some 600 Hull fans are also expected.
In response to the extraordinary demand, the club is adding additional, temporary seating at the Vetch, and will have between 100-260 extra tickets on sale from the club shop from 0900 BST on Friday.
Exeter are at home to Southend.
Tickest for Roger Freestone's testimonial match against Chelsea XI at The Vetch on Tuesday, 6 May are on sale at the club shop priced 10 and 5.
