Sunderland are set to hand on-loan midfielder Ahmed Elmohamady a permanent deal in the summer.
The 23-year-old has impressed since arriving at the Stadium of Light on a season-long loan from Cairo-based side ENPPI in August 2010.
And the Black Cats are now looking to take up an option to sign the Egypt international permanently.
"He is adapting well to the unique demands of the Premier League," said manager Steve Bruce.
"I'm certain there's still much more to come from him. He's a great professional, has settled into the club and is keen to learn.
"He's been a pleasure to have around the place since he joined us."
Elmohamady began his career with hometown club Ghazl El-Mehalla where he made his first team debut aged 17 before moving to ENPPI in 2006.
