Sunderland defender Titus Bramble says he is over an ankle injury following his £1m move to the Stadium of Light from Wigan Athletic.

The centre-back underwent surgery at the end of last season but insisted he will return a fitter, sharper player for the new campaign.

"I'm 28 now, nearly 29, so I think I'm coming to my peak," Bramble said.

"My fitness is good, my ankle is feeling fine so it's just a case of getting my fitness even better."

Bramble, a former Newcastle United player, signed a three-year deal to reunite himself with former boss Steve Bruce on Wearside.

"I'm really excited, Sunderland is a massive club," Bramble continued.

"I'm looking forward to playing and pulling on the shirt."
