Sunderland keeper Mignolet can succeed - Craig Gordon
Gordon is expected to become Sunderland's number one goalkeeper
Sunderland goalkeeper Craig Gordon believes new team-mate Simon Mignolet can be a success in the Premier League after his summer move to Wearside.
Mignolet joined Sunderland from Sint Truidense in June and Gordon has been impressed by his efforts in training.
"He's come from a good league in Europe and I think he'll do well here," Gordon told BBC Newcastle.
"He's a young lad, and as he gets more experience I'm sure he'll be a good goalkeeper at this level."
Black Cats boss Steve Bruce has a wealth of goalkeepers at his disposal this season, with Mignolet's arrival taking the quota of keepers at the Stadium of Light to five, although Gordon is expected to become Bruce's first-choice goalkeeper.
However the Scotland international believes such a compliment provides a healthy rivalry and expects his team-mates to push hard for opportunities this season.
Gordon added: "It's all good competition and I'm sure the lads are pushing for first-team football, either here or elsewhere.
"I just concentrate on myself, everyone's going to try to get themselves as fit as possible, get through the training and schedules the coaching staff have in store for us.
"I'd like to play at least two or three games to get myself in the swing of things, and hopefully if I get through those I'll be in the side for the first game of the season."
