Hutton made his debut in the 1-1 draw with Wigan Athletic
Sunderland defender Alan Hutton believes continuity could be the key to an improvement in form at the Stadium of Light.
The Wearsiders drew 1-1 with Wigan on Saturday and Hutton, part of Steve Bruce's 16th different back four, hopes for some stability in the side.
"They're all quality players, but it's better when it's a settled back four," the 25-year-old told BBC Newcastle.
"Hopefully we can build on that and try to settle it down in the coming weeks."
He added: "If we work hard, we've got a lot of talented players in that dressing room and I'm positive we can do well."
Originally a product of the Rangers academy, Hutton has since built himself a reputation as an attack-minded full-back for parent club Tottenham and at international level with Scotland.
"I like to attack as well, although obviously you need to defend," he said. "When the opportunity comes up I will do that."
Hutton has nine caps for Scotland, and has made 125 league appearances with Rangers, Tottenham and Sunderland.
