Ferdinand has been a regular at centre-half since his arrival in 2008
Sunderland defender Anton Ferdinand has reiterated his desire to remain at the club after Saturday's draw with Manchester United.
He was replaced by Paulo Da Silva for the visit to Wolves and hopes his return to the side will have impressed, even though he scored a late own goal.
"I could have sulked but I didn't," the 24-year-old told BBC Newcastle.
"I'd like to think I took my chance with both hands and showed the manager I do want a future at this club."
There has been competition for places at centre-back following the arrivals of defenders Da Silva, Michael Turner and John Mensah, despite the loss of Danny Collins to Stoke City.
However Ferdinand says he would be happy to appear anywhere in the Black Cats' side if it means regular first-team football.
"I don't care where I play, as long as I'm in that starting 11," he said.
"Right-back, left-back, midfield, up front or in goal, I'll play anywhere.
"What he [manager Steve Bruce] decides on is all that matters."
Ferdinand joined Sunderland from West Ham United for £8m in August 2008, and has since made 39 league appearances for the Wearsiders.
