Sunderland striker Kenwyne Jones has admitted the derby with Newcastle has been a second thought during his battle to recovery from his knee injury.
Jones, 24, made a successful return to reserve-team duty in Wednesday's 2-0 win against Wigan and could figure in Saturday's Tyne-Wear fixture.
"The derby wasn't my inspiration," he told BBC Radio Newcastle.
"It's been a horrible injury, it's been four long months and I've been working hard just to get back playing."
Jones picked up his injury playing for Trinidad & Tobago in June's friendly against England after an accidental collision with goalkeeper David James.
