Leadbitter's stunner earned Sunderland a point against Arsenal
Sunderland midfielder Grant Leadbitter says he wants to contribute more goals after his stunning strike in Saturday's 1-1 draw with Arsenal.
The 22-year-old has scored just 11 times in 94 appearances for the Wearsiders and hopes to see his name on the scoresheet a little more often.
"If you don't shoot then you don't score," he told BBC Radio Newcastle.
"I think it has been a while now since I last scored a goal so I need to improve on that."
That draw could so easily have been a win had Sunderland not conceded a last-gasp equaliser but Leadbitter remained realistic about the importance of a point against a top-four club.
"The lads were brilliant, and I know we're disappointed with the goal we conceded but anyone in the stadium would have taken a point," he said.
"It shows what a good team we are that we are disappointed at conceding a late goal.
"We should have taken a point against Liverpool and we took a point here today, so we're improving."
Leadbitter pledged his future to the Black Cats by signing a three-year extension to his contract in June 2008 and is currently the club's longest-serving player.
