Sunderland defender Anton Ferdinand has admitted the lure of working with manager Roy Keane was one of the key reasons he signed for the club.
Ferdinand, 23, joined the Wearsiders from West Ham United for a fee of around 8m in August and believes he can learn much from Keane's approach.
"I want to be one of the best in the world, that's what I'm striving for," he told BBC Radio Newcastle.
"Hopefully Roy Keane can help me achieve that."
Ferdinand was on hand to see Sunderland's 3-0 defeat to Manchester City on Sunday, and despite the scoreline believes he will have a tough task to break into the side.
"Danny Collins and Nyron Nosworthy are two good players, two good defenders and it's going to be hard for me to stake a claim for Wigan," he said.
"Hopefully I can show the manager I'm fit enough and good enough in training and hopefully I can get the shirt."
