Season is not over yet - Collins

Sunderland defender Danny Collins said the players will not rest until the club's Premier League safety has been mathematically secured.

Saturday's 3-1 win at Fulham established a 10-point gap from the drop zone but Collins believes their job is far from complete.

"Until it's definite we've got to still dig in," he told BBC Radio Newcastle.

"We've got Manchester City next week coming to our place and that's not going to be easy."

For the first time since Bolton in December the Black Cats scored three goals in a match and Collins was delighted to get his own name on the scoresheet.

There's no reason why us defenders can't go upfield and chip in with a goal

"The gaffer thought I should have scored last week and let me know about it but thankfully I got one," he said.

"It's pleasing that the defence can chip in because Kenwyne [Jones] comes backs and helps us out defensively.

"There's no reason why us defenders can't go upfield and chip in with a goal as well."
