 Sunderland boss Keane sees Collins as a key figure |
Sunderland defender Danny Collins has signed a new deal committing himself to the club until 2010. The 26-year-old Wales international had a year of his existing contract to run and was a key part of their promotion to the Premiership.
Collins said: "I am delighted. I really enjoy it here and I was pleased the club decided to offer me a new deal.
"Now I am just looking forward to cracking on with pre-season training before the Premier League starts."
Buckley-born Collins arrived at the Stadium of Light in a �140,000 move from Chester in October 2004 as then boss Mick McCarthy strengthened his squad.

However, he struggled to win a regular place until after Roy Keane's appointment as McCarthy's successor in August last year.
The central defender made most of his 40 appearances last season at left-back as the Black Cats recovered from a poor start to clinch promotion and the title with a stunning finish to the campaign.
Collins has been capped six times by his country at senior international level.
