Ward has won five Wales caps |
Wales goalkeeper Darren Ward has signed a one-year deal at Sunderland after being released by Norwich. The 32-year-old, who has five Wales caps, has the option to extend his stay at the Black Cats for a further year.
"Darren has played over 500 games and is very experienced, that's exactly what we need in the position," manager Niall Quinn told the club website.
"His arrival will increase the desire of all our keepers to make the team, they must all push for the position."
Worksop-born Ward began his career with Mansfield in 1992 before moving to Notts County for 150,000 in 1995.
After six years there he moved to Nottingham Forest, then signed for Norwich in 2004.
His Carrow Road chances were limited by Robert Green's fine form in the Welshman's two years at the Canaries.
