Sunderland confirm takeover talks
Former Sunderland striker Niall Quinn
Quinn was a fans' favourite at the Stadium of Light
Sunderland have confirmed they are in talks with a consortium led by former striker Niall Quinn regarding a possible takeover.

The Black Cats' chairman Bob Murray said at the end of March he would consider selling the club.

And a statement on the club's website said: "The Board of Sunderland Limited confirms that it is in discussions with a consortium led by Niall Quinn.

"It may or may not lead to an offer for the company being made."

Quinn, 39, spent six years of his career on Wearside and said last month that he would be interested in putting a bid together to buy the club.

Chairman Murray said at the time he would sell his 56.8% stake in the club - if the right offer came along.

Sunderland have had a disastrous return to the Premiership having been relegated in mid April and have only won two games all season.
