 | McCARTHY'S VIEW |
Sunderland boss Mick McCarthy has already started planning for his club's return to the Premiership after the final day 1-0 victory over Stoke. "Jeff Whitley, who's out of contract, is going, and Sean Thornton and Mark Lynch are transfer-listed," he said.
"And I'll be sitting down and talking to Tommy Myhre soon.
"There are loads of players I like who I think could do a job for me in the Premiership. It remains to be seen over the summer if we can get them in."
He added: "We might be in a relegation battle next season, we might not be. But I'm not putting that mindset into the players over the summer."
McCarthy relished the atmosphere provided by the first capacity crowd since he took charge at the club.
"It was wonderful, absolutely brilliant. It's what I've looked forward to since the time when we were bottom of the league and we played Newcastle.
"The atmosphere that day was ordinary. There was so much disappointment and apathy surrounding the place.
"From going down that year, it's what I've been looking forward to - a full house, getting promoted and people enjoying it again."
