Sunderland have signed central defender Danny Collins from Chester for 140,000. He has signed a three-and-a-half-year deal after a series of fine displays for Chester, which impressed Sunderland boss Mick McCarthy.
Collins, 24, said: "I have worked extremely hard over the last few years and to sign for a club like Sunderland is a dream come true.
"I have met the manager and he was very complimentary about me."
Collins made over 80 appearances during his time with Chester, scoring four goals.
The defender added: "It is a massive club and everything is geared towards playing in the Premiership.
"Hopefully I can repay Mick McCarthy's faith and show him that I am more than capable of playing at this level.
"I cannot wait to get started now."
