Kenny Wright and Paul McMullan are leaving Stranraer |
Stranraer have released midfielder Paul McMullan and striker Kenny Wright following a disappointing season battling against relegation. McMullan, who left Hamilton Accies in the summer, made 23 appearances but has departed by "mutual consent" according to the Second Division club.
The 23-year-old had started his career with Hearts before moving on to Inverness and Raith Rovers.
Wright, 21, played 20 times since leaving Motherwell in the summer.
Both players represented Scotland at youth level.
Stranraer manager Gerry Brittain admitted that it was not an ideal time for the players to leave when he had a small squad and was facing a possible play-off to avoid relegation.
"The two guys themselves decided that they were not happy with the amount of appearances they had made in the latter part of the season and they decided that they wanted to cut their ties with the club early to give themselves a chance of picking up another club ahead of the summer rush," Brittain told his club website.
"I think that this was perhaps a short-sighted move as they were in need of match fitness and I did make it clear to them that, with the squad being utilised to the full, that they would feature and at least have a chance to get and remain match fit.
"But it was their decision at the end of the day."
