Stoke goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen targets cup success

Goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen believes Stoke City have a realistic chance of winning a cup competition this season.

Stoke went out to eventual winners Chelsea in the last eight of the FA Cup last season, a year after reaching the quarter-finals of the Carling Cup.

Sorensen told BBC Radio Stoke:"It creates a lot of excitement around the place. Without playing too many games you could be in a cup final.

"With a bigger squad this year, we can give it a right go in both cups."

Sorensen made his first start of pre-season in the 2-1 victory over Bristol Rovers on Tuesday, having been given an extended break by manager Tony Pulis following his involvement in the World Cup in South Africa with Denmark.

"It was a fantastic experience," said Sorensen. "It's the ultimate thing that you can participate in.

"We were disappointed that we didn't get through the group, but there were things that worked against us.

"I've been training for about two weeks now and the training has been very good.

"It's nice to be on the pitch again because it's where all the action is."

Sorensen will take on Asmir Begovic and Carlo Nash for the number one spot at the Britannia Stadium this season.
