Stoke fans attend away games have required an ID card since 2003

Stoke City could scrap the controversial system that requires all fans wanting to watch the club away from home to carry an ID card.

Chief executive Tony Scholes told BBC Radio Stoke: "The away-card scheme is under constant review.

"We are looking at it now and considering our options."

City have been angered at the decision by the police to re-schedule the away games at Wigan and Manchester City because of fears about crowd trouble.

The Potters are being penalised after trouble involving a minority of fans at Bolton on the opening day of the season and Scholes says the decision of Greater Manchester Police will be taken into account when discussing the future of the ID card system.

"The decision to change these kick offs will weigh very heavily in our thought process when we come to decide what to do about the away-cards," said Scholes.

"We are very disappointed with the stance being taken by Greater Manchester Police and we feel that we are being fairly penalised based on a historic reputation.

"Things like this should be based on our current behaviour, because we now have a very good reputation."
