Banks joined Stoke after winning the World Cup in 1966

Stoke City legend Gordon Banks believes his famous save from Pele, dubbed the greatest save ever, in 1970 might not be his best stop.

The England 1966 World Cup-winning keeper denied Pele's downward header in Mexico 1970.

He told BBC Radio Stoke: "I made saves the cameras never caught. I made a save against Newcastle at the Victoria Ground which I'm told was better."

A Banks XI will play a Pele XI in a charity football match on 12 July.

The game is being staged as part of the celebrations that accompany the unveiling of a bronze statue of Banks at the Britannia Stadium.

Banks and Pele will be joined by Archbishop Desmond Tutu, where Pele and the Archbishop will officially unveil the statue.

Several former footballers have been confirmed for the match, including Mike Pejic, Peter Beagrie, Luther Blissett, Chris Kamara, Ian Rush, John Barnes, Jan Molby, Peter Bonetti and Matt Le Tissier.

Cricketer Dominic Cork, actor James Nesbitt, MP James Purnell, film director Paul Greengrass and musicians from Kasabian and The Twang will also play in the game.
