I owe Pulis everything - Lawrence

Stoke midfielder Liam Lawrence has thanked manager Tony Pulis after he was named the Championship's player of the month for February.

Lawrence told BBC Radio Stoke: "I owe the manager everything. He brought me from Sunderland when I was having a bad time and has played me regularly.

"Now I'm happy to pay him back by scoring goals and playing well."

The 26-year-old has made 37 starts for the Potters so far this season, scoring 13 goals.

He joined Stoke in 2006 from Sunderland, a club where Lawrence achieved promotion to the Premier League.

However, Lawrence says that he sees many similarities between Stoke and the Black Cats side of 2005 but it would be a greater achievement should the Potters go up.

"Sunderland have got a massive fanbase, not necessarily a better fanbase but it's certainly bigger," he said.

"To go up with the resources we've had this season would be a tremendous achievement and a great thing for the city."

Much has been made of Stoke's rise to the automatic promotion places in the Championship, but two straight defeats has left them looking over their shoulders at the likes of Watford and West Brom.

Lawrence says to now miss out on automatic promotion would be a huge disappointment.

"We've worked so hard to get into this position. The play-offs is a lottery so now we need to focus on getting that top-two finish."
