Andy Griffin joined Stoke from Derby County in January |
Stoke City defender Andy Griffin has said he will relish the challenge of being the Potters' new captain. After skippering his side to victory against Cardiff on Saturday, he said: "It's a proud moment in my career so I'm obviously delighted."
Griffin took over the role following former captain John Eustace's departure to Watford on deadline day.
But he will now miss Saturday's trip to Molineux against Wolves after being booked in the 2-1 win against Cardiff.
"We've still got good players in the squad who can come in and do a job," he told BBC Radio Stoke. "I've got every confidence that the team can go to Molineux and get a result."
Griffin, who started his career with Stoke, returned for a third spell with the Potters during the January transfer window.
After spending all of last season at Stoke on loan from Portsmouth, he signed for Derby County on a free transfer in the summer. But he lost his place at Pride Park in mid-December and was allowed by Derby boss Paul Jewell to return to the Britannia early last month for 300,000.
