Stockport County, the Football League's bottom club, have named Jim Gannon as their new manager. Former Hatters player Gannon had been acting as caretaker boss for three weeks, since Chris Turner left the club by mutual consent on 27 December.
Gannon has signed a short-term deal, with a view to a longer contract once County have started to climb the table.
"I feel proud and honoured to be given the opportunity to turn around the club's fortunes," he said.
"I am very passionate towards Stockport County, and I'm sure that working together we'll soon start to move up the table." Chief executive Kevan Taylor added: "Jim is a Stockport County legend.
"He was the outstanding candidate, and won the role ahead of a competitive field of prospective managers.
"He is a highly qualified coach, and we have already seen his motivational and tactical skills at work."
Turner had left Stockport rooted to the bottom of League Two as he won just seven of his 51 games in charge.
Since Gannon took over, County have picked up four points from their two league games, although they lost in the FA Cup to League One side Brentford.
As a player, he spent over a decade at Edgeley Park, making 480 league and cup appearances.
Since his retirement, he managed Dundalk in his native Ireland from May 2003 until November 2005.
