Stevenage chairman Phil Wallace ready for busy summer

Stevenage chairman Phil Wallace is confident boss Graham Westley will stay on to mastermind the club's first season in the Football League.

Westley's contract ends this summer and talks about his future have been put on hold until after Boro face Barrow in May's FA Trophy final.

Wallace told BBC Three Counties Radio: "He wouldn't have it any other way.

"I enjoy working with Graham, I think he enjoys working with me and I'd be surprised if he went."

Wallace added: "If he did go, he would go with my full blessing for everything he has done here."

And the chairman insists Stevenage will aim to challenge for promotion again rather than just consolidate their place in League Two.

"My nature and that of Graham too is to challenge," he said.

"To be competitive and to be in their challenging. It's not in our nature to be thinking about consolidation or anything like tha. We will be planning to challenge for honours again like we have done this season."

As well as securing Westley's future at the club the chairman must also ensure its infrastructure meets Football League standards.

"Behind the scenes there is a lot of work to do," he said.

"There are still things we need to do to comply with Football League rules, CCTV and things like that."

Stevenage won the Conference in 2006 but were refused promotion due to the ground not meeting the criteria.

Developing the stadium at Broadhall Way is high on the list of priorities.

We have got the opportunity now to kick on and bring the feel-good factor to everyone in Stevenage

"I know what I am going to do with the stadium. I believe the stadium should be a statement to the people of Stevenage," said Wallace.

"I think that when people come into Stevenage, whether a visitor or whether they live here, and they drive past the stadium, I think it should be a centrepiece for the town and I won't stop believing that.

"It happens at Northampton, it happens at Milton Keynes, there are stadiums going up at Brighton, Oldham - Morecambe have got a new stadium.

"We have got the opportunity now to kick on and bring the feel-good factor to everyone in Stevenage, and the stadium development is part of that."
