McBride leaves as Stenny sign duo
John Hillcoat and Stevie Ferguson
John Hillcoat and Stevie Ferguson could have stayed at Brechin
John-Paul McBride is to leave Stenhousemuir, while the Third Division outfit have confirmed the arrival of two players from Brechin City.

The announcement that midfielder Stevie Ferguson and goalkeeper John Hillcoat have signed follows Brechin's exit from the First Division promotion play-offs.

But midfielder McBride leaves after three years at Ochilview.

The 26-year-old started his career with Celtic before heading for St Johnstone, Derry City and Partick Thistle.

Ferguson is well-known at Stenhousemuir, where he is already youth development officer.

Previously with Ross County, the 29-year-old joined Brechin from Ayr United.

He was Brechin captain last season and was a regular in the side that finished fourth in the Second Division.

Like Ferguson, Hillcoat arrived from Ayr in 2005 and had an option to remain at Glebe Park next season.

However, the 36-year-old made just three appearances this term.

Hillcoat, who also played for Hamilton Accies, Partick Thistle, Clydebank, Morton, Queen of the South, Dumbarton, St Mirren and Stranraer, had a spell as caretaker manager with Brechin last season.
