Oldfield joined Stafford after a spell on Oxford's coaching staff

"The decision was not an easy one to make and we would like to thank David for all the hard work he has put in," a club statement read.

Oldfield, 39, had assisted boss Phil Robinson since 2006, and had come out of retirement as a player to make 22 Conference appearances since then.

His departure came before Stafford's 2-1 defeat at Ebbsfleet on Saturday.
