Buddies delight for called-up duo

Paul Gallacher and Andy Dorman

St Mirren manager Gus MacPherson believes international recognition for Paul Gallacher and Andy Dorman is a major boost for the Paisley club.

Dorman was called up to the Wales squad for the first time on Monday, while Gallacher returned to the Scotland set-up for the friendly between the sides.

"I'm sure everyone at the club will be boosted by the news," said MacPherson.

Midfielder Dorman was called in after four injury call-offs, while Gallacher replaces injured keeper Craig Gordon.

The 27-year-old Dorman was born in England but qualifies for Wales because of a recent Fifa rule change allowing players to play for countries where they have had five years of schooling.

"I am delighted for Andy," said MacPherson. "He has caught the imagination of everyone in Scottish football with his midfield play and his goals.

I started the season a little bit more slowly than I would have wanted to, but I feel I have been playing well for the last month

"He will be very proud that he got this recognition, as will his family.

"He was disappointed when he was left out originally, but it didn't affect his performance against Rangers at the weekend."

Gallacher won the last of his eight caps five years ago and has since had a difficult time at Norwich City followed by a spell in Division One with Dunfermline Athletic.

Being called in to the Scotland squad for the friendly in Cardiff on Saturday - after Gordon fractured his arm playing for Sunderland against Tottenham at the weekend - justifies his summer switch to St Mirren Park.

"Paul is different, he has had a taste of it before," said MacPherson of the 30-year-old.

"He has been outstanding for us in the league and cup and other people have taken note.

"Yes, Craig Gordon is injured and he will be disappointed, but Paul will see this as an opportunity to go into squad and show what he can do."

Dorman was delighted for himself and Gallacher having also helped St Mirren, who gone four games without defeat until losing their last two games, to seventh place in the Scottish Premier League.

"I am really excited," the midfielder told BBC Scotland, saying that he was enjoying playing in right midfield or behind the strikers for the Paisley club.

"I started the season a little bit more slowly than I would have wanted to, but I feel I have been playing well for the last month."
