St Mirren midfielder Hugh Murray could make an earlier-than-expected return from injury - in time for the start of the new season.
The Paisley club had expected the 30-year-old to miss the start of the new term with a groin problem.
But Murray underwent surgery for the injury last week.
And manager Gus MacPherson said: "We're now hopeful that he will be able to get back with the rest of the squad early in the pre-season."
Meanwhile, St Mirren are still trying to arrange a couple of friendlies during their week-long pre-season training camp in Italy.
They start their season proper in the first round of the Co-operative Insurance Cup - away to East Stirlingshire on Sunday 2 August.
So MacPherson is also trying to arrange a friendly fixture the following weekend as the Scottish Premier League does not begin until 15 August.
